SPECIALISED WORKSHOPS

Monday 1st July at the INSA Lyon, Villeurbanne (lunch included)

Workshops are organized outside Novatech by active members of technical and/or scientific communities of urban water management. Some workshops are organized by international working groups of the IWA/IAHR joint committee on urban drainage. They are based on a few chosen presentations of international experts. They aim to offer longer and more informal exchange times than during the Novatech conferences and to specify necessary research orientations to better meet the needs of practitioners for sustainable urban water management.
English is the official language (simultaneous translation will not be provided during workshops).

3 workshops are proposed :

  • 1 - Urban water monitoring - Organized by a JCUD working group with the support of The University of Melbourne and INSA Lyon.
A new type of workshop : interactive, fun and a great opportunity to build new links and collaborations.
  • 2 - Benchmark of urban flood models - Organized by Water Green-Urban-Management (WaterGUM), UNSW Sydney, Australia & International Working Group on Data and Models
  • 3 - "National meeting" of rainwater facilitators - organized by Graie and ADOPTA - In French only
Workshops take place on the conference site.

1 - Urban water monitoring

Organized by several JCUD working groups with the support of The University of Melbourne and INSA Lyon
Schedule: from 9am to 5pm (lunch included) / Check the detailed program

An innovative workshop, on urban water monitoring with insights from both academics and technicians.
The main idea of the workshop is inspired by speed dating, but as organizers said: "you won’t find the one you want to live with, only the ones you want to work with!" It will be group meeting based on topic affinity. The focus is on small group discussion and not on stand alone presentation. Note that no translation will be provided by the conference organizer, but several bilingual participants will help for the translation, if needed.
Do not hesitate to consult the website dedicated to this workshop to know the detailed program!

2 - Benchmark of urban flood models

Organized by Water Green-Urban-Management (WaterGUM), UNSW Sydney, Australia & the JCUD International Working Group on Data and Models
Schedule: from 9am to 5pm (lunch included) / Check the detailed program

The JCUD International Working Group on Data and Models leads a research study on benchmarking recently developed urban flood modelling tools. As part of this project, leading research groups will be invited to participate. Each group will be asked to:
1. suggest a case study area and share the input data in an online repository and;
2. run their flood model for all the case studies ans prepare the relevant results.

The aim of this workshop is to gather and share the findings. Each group will have a 30 min presentation and then we will discuss preliminary results and conclusions. Future work will be planned, a draft of the paper structure will be prepared, and target journal will be selected.

3 - "National meeting" of rainwater facilitators

Organised by Graie and ADOPTA, in French only
